As part of its succession planning, our client is now looking to recruit a veterinarian specialized in diabetes research for its Hessen site to act as a

Laboratory Head (m/f)

Your role:

  • Within diabetes research you will be part of a team of four laboratory heads collaborating in the development of innovative medicines within the Cluster GI Endocrinology and Obesity
  • You will be responsible for planning, conducting and interpretation of animal studies using the highest of standards for investigating efficacy in small and large animals
  • The outcomes of these studies will be crucial for decisions concerning future development projects, submissions to regulatory authorities, in-licensing and line extensions
  • You will be leading a team of three technical assistants
  • You will keep yourself updated on the latest science in your research area and propose new targets for future therapies
  • You will further develop existing methods and animal models and establish new animal models if necessary
  • In the later stages of development, you will serve as the key contact for co-workers from various project teams on the basis of your knowledge of laboratory animal science and conduct decisive investigations on their behalf
  • You will also conduct animal studies and advise scientific experts internationally on behalf of external collaborating working groups.
  • If required, you will draw on the support of contract research organizations (CROs) and plan and coordinate the relevant activities
  • You will manage your projects independently and on your own authority
  • You will publish your results in key scientific journals and personally present them at international congresses
  • You will also invest in events and international exchanges with key opinion leaders in the field for your own professional development
  • You will report to the Cluster Head GI Endocrinology and Obesity within the German R&D hub


  • You are a veterinarian with several years of professional experience in research, working in a laboratory or in laboratory animal husbandry
  • Ideally, you have proven expertise in working with laboratory animal species and you routinely conduct studies with laboratory rodents
  • You also have experience in conducting studies in dogs and pigs, ideally under laboratory conditions
  • Your previous research activities include work investigating metabolic activity
  • You experience working in a team as enriching, actively seek exchange with others and already have some management experience
  • You already have experiences with the German animal welfare authorities and are able to prepare submit your own animal ethics applications
  • Willingness to accept sporadic travel is essential
  • You are fluent in German and English and are proficient in producing high-standard written material in both languages
